Thread: Sen. Pete Dominici's (R- New Mexico) proposal

  1. #1
Anybody listenting to Sen. Pete Dominici's (R-New Mexico) proposal for undocumented/illegal workers?

Anyone here less than 5 years get 5+3 years of work permits then goes home. Anybody over 5 years get a 5 year work visa and then a change in status to anything EXCEPT PR. Rather interesting.

Dominici's mom was an illegal alien who got caught up after WWII. She got arrested by the immigration authority because her husband (an immigrant who served in the US Army during WWI) was given erroneous legal advice on her status.

I want to say that in his speech he touched a red zone in the immigration issue that other senators did not mention at all , is about immigrant that are here illegally but married with us citizen and have usa citizen kids , same as his story , I do respect that man for saying his story and brings up to the surface that issue

It seems to me that everyone is forgetting that this country was formed off of immigrants. Everyone (except for Native Americans) are considered decendants of an immigrant. Even a Republican.

Senator Sessions says if you overstayed your visa, even 10 years ago, you are out of luck, you are not in this bill!!!

Sen. Domenici's proposal is based on equity, the same principle governing the granting of benefits under INA.
It's hard to believe, but the only bill imposing criminal penalties on aliens illegally present in the U.S. is the House bill, and the Frist bill, in reality a toned-down version of the House.
It is hard to understand how these bills that impose criminal penalties on immediate relatives fail to amend other statutes that specifically grant benefits to those with that status. This nonsense is not only dangerous, but irrational.

I just don't understand why the bill covers people who entered illegally here and don't cover the legal immigrant who did not finish the process and or late to do, (overstay because of the slow systems) , I do think it is shame do not give rights to people who did enter legally and got investigated with officers before getting admitted and have a family here a wife or husband and that marriage involves kids that are us citizens now , they say overstay is broken the law ? how about people who entered in the border that is breaking the law and WORKE illegally that is broken the law that mean people who that bill covers did break the law 2 times and now they are covered and help them so I think it is shame to break a usa family to send one of their member husband or wife out of the usa and let them leave without them, that is shame

If you're coming and being processed legally and then drop of the legal system one way or another, won't that make you illegal as well? You should be covered by the bills.
Overstay is breaking the law. Entering the country illegaly is also breaking the law.

The different versions of immigration reforms affect a lot of legal immigrant in a good way as well. From the Dream Act, raising the work visa quota, exempting the visa # requirement against the worldwide limit, etc.
