Thread: Green Card Expired? Mom can't come back?

  1. #1
Concerned that the variety of responses may be assumptions. Does anyone have experience or legal feedback on this issue?

My mom moved to the states in 1984 from Germany. Lived/worked here for about 10 years, married to an american. She then divorced and moved back to Germany. Remarried a german man and has lived there since. The last name on her German Passport does NOT match the name on her green card. Also, her green card may have expired since she's been out of the country for almost 14 years. She has come to visit several times but always as a tourist - NOT as a green card holder.

Now, she wants to move back to the USA, to work and live.

What are her options? What are the risks involved of using her 'expired' green card?

Any sincere advice is greatly appreciated.

She is no longer a United States resident, not only did her card expire also her status.
She has abanded and left the United states for over decade and has nothing and no connection with this country anymore.14 years???? lol.

You already lose your status if you leave the country for more than one year, unless you file a reentry permit.
But for heavens sake, your mom left and abonded this country for 14 years??? this is no longer her home, nor did she pay any taxes, nothing.
Her status expired wayyyy wayyyy back.
