Thread: LPR-marries USC- can LPR get citizenship early?

  1. #1
    Hi

My son is a LPR and has been for almost 3 years

He is getting married to a USC shortly so does he still have to be a LPR for 5 years before getting citizenship?

Can anyone post link for information or know?

    Thanks

    Once
    1. he has been an LPR for 3 years
    2. has been married to a US citizen for a period of 3 years
    and
    3. that citizen has been a US citizen for 3 years

then he is eligible. (Actually he can apply 3 months (90 days) prior to that time)
The above is simply an opinion. Your mileage may vary. For immigration issues, please consult an immigration attorney.

    Sappyconifer's information is correct.

In this circumstance, your son will be eligible for citizenship under the five-year rule before he will be eligible through marriage.
