Thread: Dual USA/UK citizenship?

  1. #1
A friend of mine is from the UK. She just got her 10yr green card based on a marriage to USC. For some reason, she believes she would have to lose her UK citizenship if she applied for US citizenship.

Anyone familiar with what the UK law says about dual citizenships? Are there certain limitations, such as if you're over 18, you can't apply for another country's citizenship?

    Thanking in advance,

    Taco

As a subject of the British monarchy, one does not lose UK citizenship. If a UK subject acquires US citizenship, he/she has dual nationality.

Consult this link to see how dual nationality may alter the support from the UK.

No problem having dual UK/US citizenship.

Here's another link that may be of interest.

Good link, Sphyrapicus. This link also confirms the 2-yr caveat you were pointing out to Mohan on the thread concerning the child born to a US citizen.
