Thread: is there a grace period before being out of status?

I am a USC. My girlfriend is here on an F1 for school. Her $$ is getting tight and she does not want to attend school this fall semester. What happens if she does not attend this fall? She & I want to get married, but we have to await the finalization of my divorce. Is there any risk in not attending school as we plan to marry before the end of the year? Please help.

Hi. I was in the same situation that your girlfriend is.
yes. your girlfriend is going to be OUT OF STATUS because shs didnt graduate the school. If she graduated, and stopped going to school, she can use grace period, which means she CAN be staying in this country REGALY for 60 days.
other than that, she is going to be out of status.
    Wish you good luck though!!
    wish me good luck too!

your girlfriend should contact the international student office of the college she is attending. I am sure she can take a break for one semester due to health problems and can still be in status after she rejoins next semester. She must see the international student office before taking off.Good luck.
