    1. COMMENT

    The World In One City

New York is the immigration capital of the world. All the 243
countries are richly represented on the streets of this
metropolis. Who are these people? Where do they come from? Why
did they come here? Why do they love the city so? Immigrants
from 100 countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, give their
    answers.

    (a) Dear Weekly Editor:
It doesn't make no sense, when congress passing all kinds of laws
against immigrant even taking away their driver licences, how in
the world they can recruit immigrants in militery? It is such a
contradictery. When these American born citizen don't like to
die, congress bribe these immigrant to give them citizens and to
their families if they die for a nation, do you think they really
like to die for USA? Or they are getting bribed to take care of
their families not to suffer and get papers to live here. It is
really a shame when those are here for yrs and yrs and can't get
driver licences, can't work legally and all of a sudden someone
ready to die in millitery who is immigrant, will be taken care
with rest of his family, thats hypocracy and unethical.

    Sabrina Panjwani

    (b) Dear Weekly Editor:
I was deported by USCIS in 2005. I have 2 Masters Degrees and an
MBA. I am a business consultant specialized in IT systems
implementation and in particular workflow management via business
process re-engineering. ICE got a call from someone who wanted me
out of the country and my visa just happened to be expired. I was
jailed fot 5 weeks before being put on a plane at my own
expenses. Deported for 5 years. Now I hear Homeland Security
needs IT implementation advising. Excuse me, but I have to laugh.
My story is all true and it shows how stupid the system is.

    Name withheld upon request

    (c) Dear Weekly Editor:
I am interested to find out what is the legal age for US born
citizen to sponsor their undocumented parent? How long will the
process take? Thank you for helping.

    Mack

    (d) Dear Weekly Editor:
There is a serious matter developing in Utah with an immigrant
who died while in prison. The family is here from Mexico trying
to find out what is going on. Conflicting reports have been
issued. I think that this would be of interest to your readers.
Thank you for this news service. It has been very helpful to our
student organization (Harvard Immigration Project) as it has been
a means of contacting groups such as ourselves.

    Abraham Wise
    Harvard Law School

    (e) Dear Weekly Editor:
Following hints can improve the USCIS backlog mentioned in your
comment (IW 1/8/07). Allow to file I-485 when the visa numbers
are not available & in that way employees will not file their
labor as well as I-140 from multiple places. This will reduce
work load. Allow to transfer labor as well as I-140 when the
    company has layoffs.
