Thread: USCIS/FBI name check update

    Hot off the USCIS press:

USCIS Meets Another Milestone in Eliminating FBI Name Check Backlogs
Name Checks Pending More Than Six Months Now Completed

WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that, working in close partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the backlog for FBI name checks pending more than six months has been eliminated. This is the fourth milestone met by the agency as part of its joint plan with the FBI to completely eliminate the backlog of pending name checks.

I want to ask something about this update

Is this just for 1-485 and N-400 or it's also for name checks pending at the embassy level administrative processing

I believe this is only for those within the US already. Visa applicants via the Embassy or a Consulate are likely SOL I'm afraid.

For once, that makes sense as the applicant is not resident here already, thus making the argument that it's necessary on ground of National Security stronger.

Embassy level Administrative processing is having no time limit. It is done by state department directly.
