IR6 means Immediate Relative (Spouse) of a U.S. Citizen.

It is Permanent Residence based on Family (Marriage).

hope this helps (THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE)
    Leviticus 19:33-34
"When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God."

More specifically it is the classification of an immigrant relative (husband or wife) that acquired PR through marriage and adjustment of status after the marriage had been in place for 2 years.
The above is simply an opinion. Your mileage may vary. For immigration issues, please consult an immigration attorney.

    2 years marriage required?

    For IR6

Do you mean in applying for spousal visa for a foreigner, the marriage has to be in place for more than 2 years? I am filing i-130 and our marriage has been only few months old. Please comment.

No. They will be a conditional permanent resident, and the classification will be CR6 instead of IR6.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
