Thread: Student Loan

  1. #1
I have a pending AOS- Spouse petition. (Five years in Dec 04). I have had two interviews already (No passport stamps) and I want to go back to school for my Masters degree. Eligibility criteria for student loan includes legal residence among others. Does anyone know if EAD holders qualify as legal resident for the purpose of student loan ?. I am just curious.

Do you have the Alien registration number? If so, you are likely eligible.

When you set up your FAFSA account, they will check whether you are eligible and tell you.

Go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ and click on Determine my eligibility on left hand side and register for a PIN.

    Hi So Long

I am curious as to why you do not have greencard yet.??? 5 yrs and 2 interviews???

Whats going on. why are you being j e r k ed around. Even the longest SErv Center is only running 36 months for AOS. Is spouse USC or is just Lpr.

Is the one interview 751 to remove conditions. Im confused here.

  6. #6
Could it be that spouse is LPR hence waiting for application # to become current?

Does an AOS applicant (who has EAD and AP) get an A#? - if yes, can this be used for Student Loans? or any other benefits?

Is the A# itself the actual AOS application itself number from USCIS? or does it change when you get the actual greencard?

    Thanks

My wife is a US citizen born and bred. We filed all forms at once, I-485, 765, 130, etc. We got called for the first interview 18 months into our marriage. We went and they promised to get back to us soon.

We waited another year an a half for a response only to get an invitation for a second interview. We went for this interview were separated. I spent 30 minutes with the officer and then my wife went in and spent about 3 minutes. According to my wife the officer confirmed that she corroborated me in all her responses. They wanted to do background check and promised we will hear from them again soon. it's been another 18+ months since the second interview.(case has been transferred to a local office). The last time we checked they said they were doing FBI check/investigation( The file was not available). No idea how long this will last. We are patiently waiting. One thing tho' that my wife and I always wonder is, if they are not saying yes why is it not easy for them to say no ?.

    Hi soo Long,
You're not goint to be granted a student loan with a pending aos.
I have a pending AOS as well with A# and w/permit.When I applied for a loan, the wanted to see a copy of both side of my green card(wich a don't have right at this moment).
So tought the were jocking, and the the school to meet their financial department guys and they confirmed that I needed the actual green card.
Beside the loan officer check your immigration status anyway with INS.
    Good luck to you.

    Hello Soo Long

This is not good my friend.. Do you know if officially your file was transferred to "marriage fraud unit investigation" or not? Why would they think something is off key that they had 2 interviews and one seperated? and now this "background checks that s taking so long? Stalling for yet a chance to deny your petition?

What service center are you in?

Time to contact local congressman in this case. At least when this is completed you should have your 10yrs card.
