Can anyone explain to me what it means when they say "master hearing date" or master calendar hearing..anyone? is it different from a regular immigration hearing date?

A Master Hearing is a scheduling/status conference. At your first master, you plead to the charges and tell the judge what forms of relief you are seeking (asylum, adjustment). The judge will then set a time for submission of documents and the next hearing date (may either be another master or an individual hearing -- this is the "trial")

    thanks for responding kmctram
okay, so this is not actually the start of a person's trial, but the demand of what im seeking?.so you mean that they dont know what im seeking?.the thing is the case was in florida and we got a change of venue to new jersey, arent they suppose to have document sent to them from florida with the asylum claims?

What I wrote was what happens at the first master -- seems you have already had one. So, it would just be a status conference to determine what happens next and when.

One more question- if you ask for voluntary deparure and you are given 120 days to depart, if an immigration bill gets enacted, can the person that has 120 day to voluntary depart still be able to adjust his status through the new bill if he/she is eligible to apply under new enacted immigration bill?

First, it is rare to get 120 days. But, while a person is in the US for their VD time, the are here "legally", but I believe that their case would need to be reopened to apply for relief. As for a new law - first of all, good luck . . but it would depend on the specifics of the bill and the reasons the person was put in proceedings in the first place.
