Thread: Suggested Worker Program Cap?

  1. #1
After watching the news about his lousy guest worker program, I haven't heard anyone suggest any caps on how many would be allowed. Is the suggestion all 11 million illegals to get this "visa" ? Unlimited "visas" ? Yearly caps? Anyone heard / read anything on that?

The selection criteria (pre-2004, holding a job, no criminal record, etc) is what they're relying on. If everyone fit the criteria, then yes, all 11 million illegals will be awarded the amnesty. As for the yearly numbers afterward, thats kinda left in the dust right now. I doubt they'll settle on a number until they've a projection on how many will be covered under the pre-2004 criteria first.

How will they know who's working and who's not? Most illegals I presume are being paid under the table. Will it be for those paying taxes? If so aren't they paying taxes with false identification? Seems unfair if this is the case.

They maybe paying taxes under false identification but the Gvt is receiving it and liking it too. If it is not fair then they should be sending the money back.

If they're paying money under false ID, then it will be OUR tax monies that SS and IRS are going to be using to untangle the mess so that these guys can be "legalized". SS contributions need to be credited to the right accounts, so if someone else's SS number is used, the SS Administration has to sort out whose is whose. Also, the contributions of illegal workers amount to a paltry $7 billion a year--paltry when matched against the costs of providing services to them and their families.
The whole SS suspense fund, the accumulation of more than 30 years of such contributions, wouldn't pay for a year of SS's benefits. Also, since poor workers who pay into SS get more proportionally back than higher-wage workers, these guys will actually make the SS problem WORSE.

Why not just apply a set dollar amount? For all who cannot get tax records the IRS can establish a dollar amount.

If you read the SJC bill, it's indeed very similar to S. 2454 and very strong on enforcement.
