Thread: Be thankful....

    Be thankful...

Imagine a life, perhaps quite unlike your own
Where you find yourself once more completely alone
Assurances to stand by you and not, not go away
Rattle through your mind for the 200th day

Time noisy with merriment; now a quiet does follow
Days filled with a presence; now empty and hollow
I continue to gesture, but rarely a word
In response to my offer. Am I not being heard?

Did I ask for too much for a person to care
To keep in close contact and continue to share
My friend's care and compassion, I've no doubt was strong
So, I'm left to question, "Then, what did I do wrong?"

    Letters written; still no answer...

Oh, how I hope my dear friend would only see
That I'm witty, playful, vivacious, carefree
Understanding, forgiving, kind and, yes, true
And someone who'd always be thinking of you

A friendship, so elusive - how could that be?
Letters written - no answer; but is that the key?
Perhaps a tacit message, humbling yet painful to see
That my friend finds something unworthy in me?

Imagine a life, perhaps completely unlike your own
Be thankful if there's a familiar voice on the phone

Imagine a life, perhaps unlike the one you hold dear
Be thankful if you've a friend who wants to be near

Imagine a life, perhaps somewhat foreign to you
Be thankful to hear the words, "I'm thinking of you"

Their loss! If everyone had a heart like Swissnut's we'd never have another war, there'd never be another broken heart.
