Thread: Green Card Renewal

  1. #1
My friend is married to a US Citizen. She has two children (aged 7 & 9 years) born in the US. She does not want to opt for US Citizenship at present. Her 10 year green card is due to expire in August 2009. She has applied for renewal but I believe it takes a long time. In the meanwhile, if in case of an emergency she has to leave the US, what does she need to do to ensure a hassle free return to the US? Thanks.

She can get a stamp in her passport from USCIS that is proof of LPR status for international travel and employment. Make an Infopass appointment to get that stamp.

    Bawaji:

Some countries such as Pakistan would not let you fly to US with I-551 valid stamp. Their immigration authorities want to see physical green card before they let you board.

    Hi Kumar:

US citizens originally from Pakistan can travel from US to Pakistan with US Passport and NICOP (National ID card for overseas Pakistanis). NICOP holders do not need visa for Pakistan.
