Thread: I Want to Move America to Act do I Need a B.A?

I want to move to the states to act/write, I've read some of the laws on employment and it says that you need a job offer from an American company first or You need a degree. I have neither currently. Is it true that you need to be offered a position before moving to the states? Or can you come over for a short period and try to break through with a short visa?

    Hi Ant Lee
I am in the same position. I am an actress/model from Canada and I'm now here in NYC trying to look for work.

You do need a working visa H1 visa. and if you don't have a degree it is almost impossible. I have a B.A in psychology and all potential employers do not even hire me bec. I don't have any certification. It's like if you dont' have one (degree/b.a) then you can't have the other (certification)

As for breaking into the entertainment industry, I have been to many agencies and when they find out that I am a Canadian they don't want to represent me bec. they will have to sponsor me.

sorry to break the news to you, but save your time and money before you come here to the U.S., or go to school and get a degree and try your luck. That's what i've been doing and it's not working out

    Good luck
