Thread: H1B transfer to G4

  1. #1
    Hi,

I am currently under an H1B visa and have received an offer to work in an international organization with a G4. Therefore, I would like to know the following:

Is it easy to transfer back from a G4 to a H1B?

If I loose my job in the international organization, do I have to apply into the quota system for H1 again or can I still use my approved H1B petition?

Is it true I have to wait 15 yrs to apply for a green-card on a G4?

What are the benefits and drawbacks of the G4 visa?

If I loose my job while on G4 for how long can I stay in the US?

I would really appreciate some help!

    Thank you.

Under the G4 visa, your income would be exempt from US Tax if you are a nonresident alien for tax purpose, ie neithe a US citizen or green card holder.

It is easy to transfer, but you will need to return home to your country for consulate interview. From there, you will receive your g4 visa and give up your H-1b visa.

If you loose your job under the g4 visa, then you would need to return to your home country. From there, a sponsor could apply for you to seek employment in the United States.

You will need to start over with a new petition once you adjust your status to G4. So, it will be as hard as it was the first time to change status from G4 back to H1B.
