You can apply after three years if you stay married to the USC throughout the naturalization process.
    Otherwise, five years.
It takes another year or two of processing after applying get citizenship.

Ok Joey, Old man wasn't exactly right. You can apply for citizenship 2 years and 9 months from the date you become a permanent resident providing you are still married to the same USC that you gained your green card through. If you were granted conditional residency through marriage, you have to file an I-751 to remove the conditions, 1 year and 9 months from the date you were granted permanent residency but as the I-751 can take over a year, you can still file for citizenship when 2 years and 9 months have passed even if your I-751 is still pending.
As for how the N-400 process takes, that will depend largely where you are located. You need to check your local USCIS processing times. I saw my local office processing times in Philly and decided to look at other offices and found that Vermont seemed to be one of the quickest.........it has taken me just over 4 months to file, interview and get to my oath ceremony, this coming friday. Other places can take years to process the N-400

I meant that it has taken me a little over four months for my N-400 after I moved to Vermont
