Thread: Bronzelady-new passport in the middle of AOS?

  1. #1
    Bronzelady,

I have one more question, please. I have been waiting for the interview with a marriage based AOS app for 2 years.

i used up all my visa pages on my passport, i do need to travel overseas quite a bit. my question is -- can i get a new passport (it will be with a different passport number) during the AOS process? does it affect my application in anyway at all?

Thanks a lot for your help

You should have no problems with getting a new passport. However, you need to keep your old one because the visa will not be transferred to the new. My wife's passport expired before our AOS interview - she just renewed, and we had no problems.

    Sethh is right...

Its even better to have a new passport before ur AOS gets approved...so u will have I-551 stamp in new passport.... Whenever u travel ... u r going to travel on new passport with I-551 stamp in it .....so that's even better.....like I renewed my passport but I got that stamp in old one...so as a measure of precaution I will have to carry that old passport all the time unless I become citizen ...well its written no where in laws like this ...but we got to take extra precautions coz we never know what will they ask at port of entry...so in ur case its even better...u r gonna have I -551 stamp in new passport...wish u all the best....

You are travelling with an advance parole right?

Before you submit your old passport to your government, make sure you make photocopies of all the pages, especially your US visa and entry stamp.

My hubby got a passport back in july 2002, good for 5 years. We are currently waiting for AOS interview still have about 1 year left. Would you advise going ahead and getting a new passport? Or just go with current one and just renew it?
