Thread: How to renew Permanent Resident card

  1. #1
My husband's PR card is expiring within a year. It was good for 10 years and is catagory IR6. If I understand correctly, it is not conditional, so does he file the I90 for renewal? Also what exactly is IR6?

    Welcome to ILW, Rebecca

Yes, he would file the I-190 (info here).

It's my understanding that IR6 is a spousal visa and that he adjusted status within the US on something other than a K1 visa.

    We are glad you did.

But here is a suggestion, instead of getting another PR card, why does he not apply for citizenship

My husband for whatever reason (I don't understand him) does not want to become a citizen. That really bothers me. His dad became a citizen.

I think my husband can have dual citizenship...I have to dig to find out. He is mexican. We can really get into heated discussions on immigration issues, I think he is one of those people that feels that he will betray his country if he becomes a citizen of the US.
