Thread: Reentry

    General Question:

Why is it possible, as a GC-Holder, even if you leave the US for let say 3 years, that you can re-enter without any problems at the airport.

Even if they ask you, for how long you were away, you can say whatever you want and they dont seem to really care.

They cancelled one of my friend's GC , because he was not maintaining the GR stutus. You should travel back to US within six months in order to maintain.

  4. #4
why? did he tell them upon entry how long he was away for?

They do care... every time I spent a longer time outside the USA it was written in my passport next to the stamp, in big letters: OUT X months.

Several people told me that (JFK Airport i.e.). I found that really odd.

Everytime I spent a longer time outside the US, they also write lenghth of absence next to the stamp, but they write down the period of time, I tell them.
