Thread: Case # 4 home res. waiver... how long?

    Hello,

I'm in the process of getting my J-1 2yr. residency waiver with the State Department. My lawyer has filed the paperwork and we have yet to hear anything from them issuing me a case number. I understand things take time, and my lawyer said that I should expect a case number from the State Dept. usually in 2-3 weeks time. Unfortunately, I've been waiting well over a month now, 6 weeks approximately. Has anyone experienced any delay like I am? Does it usually take this long or however long it takes to get a case #?

Upon getting my case # and when my embassy issues the "No Objection" letter, does anyone know how long it usually takes to find out their recommendation? Thank you!

hm, no case # could mean your application was lost, never reached the destination.

I sent my application on Oct 16, 2003. They sent case number to me on October 30th, and I got it about a week later.
    Call this public inquiry line:
    202-663-1225
as soon as the guy starts speaking press 1 to go to main menu, as soon as you get there press 0 for operator (otherwise you will be listening to a lot of automated general info you don't need), then you are on hold for about 15 minutes, then an operator will answer. You can ask her to look your case up by name, since you don't have a case #.
Didn't your lawyer send it certified or registered mail? that was a mistake.

I hope you kept copies of everything. If you don't get an answer in two more weeks, try to find out if the money order was cashed.

it took me about three months to get no-objection letter and then about three weeks for the decision. The favorable recommendation was issued, however, I still didn't get the hard copy of it. It's been exactly 20 days, but when I called they told me it takes them 4 weeks to actually print it and mail it.
