Thread: employment authorization

  1. #1
im 20 yrs old entering my third yr of college. ive been in the country for about 13 yrs now. i have an ssi card but it says "Not Valid For Employment", and i am also out of status and have been for some time. Although i did come in legally on an H-1B visa, and at one time had an Employment Authorization Card. I recently applied for a job and was hired on the spot but when they checked my info, they notified me that i am not eligible to work. They told me that they want help me sort what ever needs to be sorted in order to get me in. My question is, is there anything that they can do in order to make me eligible for employment?

    Hi Eddie and welcome,

How long have you been out of status? I don't think the employer can help you at this point. I would say marriage to a USC may be the only solution to adjusting your status. But, since you are only 20, doesn't sound like a very feasible option). Good luck and maybe some other members will offer different advice.

If you are 20 now, looks like you came here with your parents as an H4 dependent. Did your parents get their green cards or become citizens?

Plenty of both (brains and patriotism). This guy was obviously brought by his parents at the age of 7 or so. Why blame him??? What are these kids supposed to do to get any relief from the illegal acts of their parents? Don't blame them. They are the ones who need some type of reform in this country because they didn't intentionally do anything wrong.
