Thread: Please explain...

My LPR spouse applied for naturalization in August 2003. Shortly thereafter, the fingerprinting part of the process was done. Since we live in Michigan, I checked Detroit office timeline and noticed that they were processing N-400 apps from August 2002, i.e., approximately 1.5 years wait. Today, we received notification from Nebraska Service Center to appear for interview on April 15, 2004!! So what happens next in the process? How long of a wait after the interview (on an average)? Is this an anomaly processing timewise? Experts, your two cents please! Thanks.

As far as I can recollect there is a test, which may be the notice for the interview, which you are referring to. The test checks your comprehension of the laws and asks some basic questions on American History. If you apss the test, they will let you know right then and there. Afterwards, in my case it was about a month or so later because of the holidays, you are scheduled for a Swearing in Ceremony, at which time you receive your Certificate of Naturalization.

Based on the above, it is then possible for my spouse to obtain citizenship by the end of summer 2004?! A year's time all in all?! It's almost too good to be true! Or perhaps I'm too cynical.

Sounds too good to be true to me too. The new records checks that are required have caused a delay in processing Natz applications not shortened them, but sometimes people get lucky and a file gets put in the wrong box and somebody gets processed early.

swissnut, when did you become a citizen ?

Also one more question, did you have any traffic violations at the time of filing N400, and did you disclose it on N400 ?
