Thread: Changing status from H1B - what is the timing like these days?

I am about to file my change of status from H1B to a GC. I have been waiting for two years for my company to sponsor me for my GC and they never did so I am going to go through the motions myself.

Questions: What is the average cost these days of lawyer fees and what is the average time now it takes to process. Word on the street is "don't believe what you read in the papers about INS slowing things down post 9-11". I've been told that with a good immigration lawyer it's fairly quick and painless. Albeit expensive.

    Any thoughts?

Whatever you have heard is true. You should seek services of a good Immigration Attorney who specializes in such cases. For Fee you can shop around by contacting different attorneys, but make sure that Attorney is a specialist in handling such cases. At this point you should concentrate on quality not quantity by trying to save money.
    Good luck.
