Thread: A Dummy's Guide to Peace in the Middle East

Let's make it plain and simple. The goal of the Arab world, especially non-Palestinian Arabs, is not the establishment of a Palestinian state. If the goal was that simple, it could have been accomplished years ago.

In several instances, third parties have formulated workable plans to have a Palestinian state adjacent to an Israeli state. There were chances for such a peace in 1922, 1948, and 2000. Each time, the Israelis accepted the peace plan; each time, the Palestinians said no.

Even now, with President George W. Bush meeting with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and urging the Israelis to withdraw their troops, Palestinian terrorists send yet another suicide bomber to kill more people and quash any chance for peace.

No, the Arab world is not seeking peace in the Middle East through the establishment of a Palestinian state. So what does the Arab world want?

Consider for a moment that there are two primary objects of Arab hatred. They hate the Jews most of all, and they hate the Americans almost as much. (To be fair, there are some Arabs that actually want peace, and there are Arab immigrants in the United States who are fine citizens. We are talking here about militant, fundamentalist, Arabs.)

The primary goal is the total destruction of the state of Israel. The secondary goal is the downfall of the United States of America. They want to drive the Israelis into the sea, and destroy the Great Satan. If you want proof, just open the history book.

Neighboring Arab nations have tried to crush the Israelis on several occasions, notably in 1948 and in 1967, which only resulted in the Israelis picking up additional territory. Saudi fundamentalists hijacked airplanes and flew them into buildings in an attempt to bring down the United States, which resulted in the overthrow of the Taliban and sent Osama bin Laden into hiding. And, of course, everyone remembers how the Palestinians celebrated in the streets on September 11.

The thing about these people is that they never give up. Something has to be done, and it's not the creation of a Palestinian state. All that would do is make yet another Arab state that hates the non-Islamic world.

Then, there's the issue of so-called friends like Saudi Arabia and Egypt who really don't like America at all. The Saudis just raised millions of dollars to aid the families of suicide bombers. And there's Saddam Hussein who's trying to build weapons of mass destruction for use against both Arabs and Americans.

So is there a plan that would create peace in the Middle East, deal with terrorism, convince our so-called "friends" that we mean business, get rid of Saddam and end all this nonsense once and for all? You bet there is.

President Bush should amass two great military forces in collaboration with our allies. One of these forces should be used to oust Saddam Hussein and implement a new regime in Iraq. The other should be on standby just in case some other rogue nation be it Iran, North Korea, whoever should decide to make trouble.

Meanwhile, at the exact same time on the exact same day, with the blessing of the free world, Israel should attack and expel the militant Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza, forever making that land part of Israel. There is plenty of room for the Palestinians in other Arab nations especially Jordan which has land that used to be part of "Palestine" anyway.

Think of what this would accomplish.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict would finally be ended. The Palestinians could get about the business of settling among people who are more like they are. Saddam Hussein would be gone. And all this would have the added effect of making our so-called friends like Saudi Arabia much more wary of crossing us.

Of course, there's always the possibility that Jordan and other Arab nations would not take the Palestinians and a new conflict could break out. After all, if the borders of Israel were absolutely secure, and Mr. Bush's War of Terrorism succeeds, then whom would the Arabs have to fight with but each other?
