I am given a work authorization. And presently, Iam in the college doing nursing. I want to apply for student aid. If Iam given this loan, should I take it?. And if I take it, does this constitute a public charge?. Please, I need someone's help on this. Thankz.

If the loan has a provision limiting it only to USC, yes, you can't apply for it or that can be constitutes as fraud. Double check with the International Student Office in that college, they should be able to tell you which loan you're eligible to based on your status.

as far as I remembr, student aid is for U.S. citizens and permanent legal residents (LPR)only. If yo're studying on a student visa (with a work authorarization) you're not an LPR and could be charged with public fraud.

But be aware that some stipends are out of private fonds and anybody who is studying, say a certain subject such as nursing, or comes from a certain background (native American) etc. is eligable for such an aid. Inform yourself exactly what kind of a fund it is and if you're legally elgiable for it! I'd stay away from any national or federal grants! Good luck in your studies!
