Does anybody know exactly what sources does INS use when they do their background checks? Is it just criminal records, etc?

I will appreciate a quick response.

    Thank you,

    Curious.

INS officers can use any available source of information to track someone down. It will depend on what one is petitioning for. They can access any public files and screen on your records. They can also track down your SS# but usually in specific situtions. Usually SSA does not share its database with INS. Same for IRS. One's SS# info could be released basicaly if crime, fraud, SS# mismatch, etc is involved (though this is not a rule) but in this case IRS, which has more law enforcement personnel than INS would be the 1st one to take action.
