Immigrant of the Day: Oren Harari (Israel)

Oren Harari, a business professor at the University of San Francisco and author of nine books. His book "The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell" (2002) was a best-seller.

Born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1949, Harari immigrated to Mexico with his parents and later to the United States. Harari earned a doctorate in industrial psychology at the University of California, Berkeley in 1978 and started teaching at USF soon thereafter. He taught there for the next three decades.

Over the years, Harari consulted for numerous companies and organizations worldwide. The Financial Times of London recognized him as one of the "Top 40 Business and Management Minds in the World."

Oren also helped change U.S. immigration law. He was the expert witness in Hong Kong T.V. Video Program, Inc. v. Ilchert, 685 F. Supp. 712 (N.D. Cal. 1988), a landmark case finding work experience may be equivalent to a degree and that a corporate president constituted a professional occupation. The court quoted Oren’s testimony and the case caused the INS to change its H-1 visa regulations.
