    Hello every one,
    Could any one help.

Can a J1 Holder write, selfpublish a book, and receive royalties?

"Federal regulations prohibit work, training, and/or financial compensation for activities that are outside of the approved Exchange Visitor Program"

is, receiving royalties from a book that you have written and published in the US, considered as self employment or compensation outside your employment ?

    Thank you

writing & publishing a book is self employment. put it this way, there are many book authors who are required to submit their income to the IRS and pay tax on it. they are self employed or under the contract of a publisher for wages.
