j1 visa extension (waiver)

Hi,
I came to US in may-2003 and am working in US as an au-pair. My visa expires this year in may-2004 and my consulting company is not ready to extend my visa.

My question is can I extend my visa for 1 year or get a waiver by finding another consulting company or something there of ?
