  • Network Marketing - Can I Do It?

Anyone familiar with network marketing companies like Amway? I have a nonimmigrant visa with work authorization; Can I join an network marketing company and make money? Or is it not considered employment/under the work authorization rules? Example network marketing company: http://www.amway.com/

As an Amway distributor you aren't gonna be employed by the Amway company so it's not gonna be your employer.
You will be self employed, I think it's OK to do this with a valid work permit (as long as it doesn't have restrictions on it).
      Good luck!

Yea I got employment authroization though; Some may say that doing network marketing is conisderd "your own business" and that if you make x amount of money you'd have to submit tax forms etc. Can any lawyer/attorney or whoever confirm whether or not I can do this or not? Thanks everyone

It could be that most people aren't taking your questions seriously as you posted opposite information about your situation.

or it could be that johnsmith knows amways is a 'self income' business which he should report that income at tax filing time. johnsmith wants someone to tell him its OK to skirt immi laws. ok *poof* magic, yes johnsmith its ok for you to break immigration laws, you have my blessing. bye

Non-immigrant visa with work-authorization, meaning something like H1-B? If yes, then NO, you can't work for anyone else but your H1-B petitioner, nor can you work for yourself (AMWAY consultant included).

Julie: Putting words in my mouth is bad business. You're a naughty naughty girl. F-1 Student Visa with Work Authorization. Can I do it or not? I'm not talking consultancy. I'm talking Independant Associate for the Company, work at home who gets the Network Marketing Company sales.

I'm still confused as to why someone would start two threads that contain conflicting statements.

F1 visa holder are not allowed to engage in employment of any kind without authorization from USCIS. And even then it has a limited scope and IIRC, limited to 20hrs/week.
Just call the 1-800 number, ask to speak to an IIO and confirm yourself, easiest way to find the sure answer.
