Parents who naturalize should file an N-600 at the District office for any LPR children under age 18. Along with copies of the other required documents, send a photocopy, not your original, of your naturalization certificate. (I know it says it is illegal, just do it.) Depending on processing times, your kid will get a certificate of citizenship within weeks or it will take several years.

PP service prefers when applicants submit the certificate of citizenship, but DOS and USCIS both make a determinations of US citizenship. File a passport application for your child with your original naturalization cert and the kid's green card (or passport with I-551 stamp, I-94 for refugee/asylee, etc.) along with the other required documents. You will get them back.
