  • How long is the process to recieve a tourist visa?

I have a friend who lives in Monterrey, Mexico. There is a bus service that goes from Monterrey to Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lake Charles has alot of casinos and people go there to gamble at the casinos. I assume that my friend will need a tourist visa to enter the United States. My question is: How long does it take from the time my friend submits her application and pays the fee at the U.S. Consulate in Monterrey for her to actually recieve her tourist visa? I was told by a lawyer that it's possible that she could recieve her visa that same day. Is this true? Our goal is to make this process as quick and easy as possible. If anyone has any tips or advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

It depends on how the embassy does business with the public - for example, if all applicants are required to mail in their applications, the entire process might take 4-10 business days, round trip. This period of time could be lengthened if she is required to come in for an interview and those interviews are scheduled.
If the embassy is just allowing folks to come into the consulate everyday, chances are that if she is granted a visa she will pick it up either that day or the next, again, depending on the workload and rules at that embassy.
The major issue will be whether or not she qualifies for the visa, not how long it will take for her to receive it.
