  • Can AOS grant Financial Aid for Colleges?

My AOS is pending, and was wondering if I can qualify for Financial Aid / Federal Loans for school.

Does anyone know if its possibile, since when you can apply for work-permit and Travel Document, it seems like "why not Financial Aid too!"

    Thanks

      Hello -

I think you can apply for a so-called SELF loan if you have an American citizen as co-signer.

I'm not entirely sure if this is considered a Federal Loan but it has very low interest rate and repayment is deferred until one year after graduation.

Ask in the at your college about it.

Financial Aid office at your college should know the answer. Except you'll have to ask for a supervisor probably since the people you initially see are students and might not know.

            Hey SAM007 -

I was in the same situation as you. F-1 and married to USC. Ask the Financial Aid office for the SELF loan. That worked for me. Might not disburse as much money as other federal loans but it has the deferral until a year after you graduate. All you have to pay for is interest but no repayment until then. The interest rate is flexible ... right now at 3%.

              Follow up ...

I just checked and the SELF program is something that is only available in Minnesota. Depending on where you are going to school, there might be something similiar.
