  • White House Official Compares Illegal Immigration to Jaywalking and more..

A federal audit forced an Escondido disposal company to fire 50 of its employees for not having proper documentation to work.

The U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency audited Escondido Disposal Inc. recently and found that a quarter of the company did not have valid Social Security numbers or papers allowing them to work in the U.S. as non-citizens, our media partner the North County Times reported.

EDCO Vice President Ritchie said he had no knowledge of his employees’ lack of documentation. Though EDCO did check for the documents, many of the employees were found with counterfeit documents. Read more here

Cecilia Munoz, the White House director of intergovernmental affairs, compared the federal crime of being in the country illegally to jaywalking.

“If you were running the police department of any urban area in this country, you would spend more resources going after serious criminals than after jaywalkers. DHS (the Department of Homeland Security) is doing the immigration equivalent of the same thing,” Munoz told the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) conference on Monday. Read more here

These square-headed dimwits always try to win argument, supposedly founded on law, by telling something about the law which is contrary to the letter, intent and spirit of the law.

It does not matter how many times you repeat or type on various websites or papers that it is a "federal crime" to be in the country illegally. The fact is, Congress has not passed the law making it a Federal Crime to be in the country illegally. The last attempt was made by House of Reps around 2006 or 2007. Rep. Sensennbrenner (I can't be sure of spelling) had a Bill passed in House that made it a crime and felony to be in the country illegally, but the Congressional counterpart, the Senate, didn't pass the similar Bill to reconcile and President Bush was then advocating a Bill for legalizing guest workers.
No law had been enacted by Congress, before or after, that would make it a Federal Crime to be in the country illegally.

Just because it is a Civil offense it doesn't mean that it is a good or commendable or desired thing to be in the country illegally, but if Congress and INA defines it as a Civil violation then there is no legal misstatement or misrepresentation in comparing it to other civil infraction. Actually, under the Federal standards, jaywalking may be a more serious offense as it may be considered (or is considered) a misdemeanor while illegal presence is still a matter of civil violation.

Whatever point the author of that piece wanted to make, it doesn't appear there was any misstatement or misrepresentation of law by Munos.
If anyone, it's the author of the article who misrepresents law and defines as Federal Crime what in fact is not a Federal Crime under currently existing statutes of law.

our heart felt thanks to those employers who would rather pay $2 a day to some piece of slime illegal instead of hiring an American citizen...true patriots....turn in your blue passports, you unpatriotic pieces of garbage.

and it's 'Escondi.ld.do'...not Escondido...when business owners prefer to hire douchebag cleaners instead of Americans....their license to do business should be revoked...and their passports canceled.
