  • Help! Local office sent my file back to national center!

I really need your help here I had filed an I-751 on March 2008, divorced case, waiver based on good faith marriage. I had my interview and all. I also already had received a conditional green card which expired in April 2008.

Since my GC expired, I've been getting an I-551 stamp in my passport. I just went this morning to the local office to get my stamp renewed as it will expire in 2 weeks, however the officer said that they no longer have my file and they sent it back to the national center! She didn't know why!

Whats worse is that she said she can't stamp my I-551 cause she doesn't have my file anymore! She put a request for my file and said it will take 14-30 days to get my file and only when they get my file she can stamp my passport!! So there is a very good chance my existing I-551 will expire before they get my file.

I am really lost here and don't know what to do. Will I fall out of status ? I will have no evidence of lawful residency to renew my driver's license, give to my employer..etc. I called the 1800 number and my lawyer and nothing too helpful came out of them Why did they send my file back? did they already made a decision about my case ? I hope I can get an answer here..thanks!

Don't worry. You don't loose your status. Relax and wait for the file to arrive.
