BCIS is unlikely to come to work or to home to pick you up unless there is some reason that they have been told you are there (or care that you are there.)

However, the chances of readjusting back to legal status once you have gone out of status are more difficult!

Technically you could COS (change your status) to some other non-immigrant cathegory, such as B-2.
        Consult an attorney.
There are many risks of changing a status, one of them is that later you won't be able to change back to F-1, and once you leave the country it will be very difficult for you to get another VISA again.

As to your worries about BCIS coming after you, it's like a lottery.
Yes, chances are very small that they will pick YOU up for violating terms of your status (after all there are 12 mln. people here in violation of Immigration Regulations, and only about 400.000 or so get deported every year).
But certain number of "unlucky" people do get caught and deported by BCIS every day.
And there is really no reason for you to assume that you may not be one of those "unlucky" fellows.

Focus your mind and think what you have to do.

Dunkie-still think you should consider other sources, like help from student organizations on campus. And by the way; the first rule of living in the states is don't trust the government, especially immigration.
