  • U.S. to let illegal immigrants seek work permit

(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - The Obama administration said Thursday it will allow many illegal immigrants facing deportation the chance to stay in this country and apply for a work permit, while focusing on removing from the U.S. convicted criminals and those who might be a national security or public safety threat.
...As a matter of law, they are eligible for a work authorization card, basically a taxpayer ID card, but that decision is made separately and on a case-by-case basis," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discussed the change publicly.

I strongly think it's time Obama is voted out. He is all talk on immigration and no action. What did him and the Democrats do with the majority they had in the Senate and the House of Reps? or are they waiting for both houses to be occupied by only Democrats before we can expect any serious action from them?

I respect Mr. Obama but until now he was not able to do any effective thing positive on poor people . Every president make some positive move on immigration even president Bush did. Economy remains very very poor and that is the cause to all bad things. Like everyone in the country I had high hopes to come down crushing big time. I am now struggling like everyone else. I blame it on all politicians who are making our life very difficult.

Obama is a very Arrogant, Selfish Person. He has family, Yet his ideals and Projection Pertains Solely to Him. Many see him as Family oriented Father of children same as many, He is President Of an Entire Country. His Children so to speak is the entire USA. Not his Selfish Agenda to retain Current status, But to help all Americans Under his Administration. He is all about the $$$ and power. He cant even comprehend the Responsibility to the USA he has. He will not get it again.

                  Hi MIR ,

I'm not directing all the blame on Obama. When a President has a Congress who is unwilling to work with him on ANYTHING, the entire administration is at fault - and it's only getting worse. As for Obama not getting it again, if the Republicans cannot produce any better candidates than currently have their hat in the ring, you might not want to place any bets.

And you think Rick Perry will be any better MIR? The GOP has been in obstruction mode ever since 2009.

Assuming Perry even gets the nomination, Brit. There are a couple of other interesting names making waves. What happens to the racist tea party/GOP label if Cain gets it?

Regardless, the last time CIR was on the table it was a bipartisan effort under Bush and it failed on a bipartisan level with the Dem/Independant no votes making the difference. The big problem is that no one is willing to take a middle ground. It's all or nothing. The partisan pissing competition indulged in by politicians and supporters alike is only hurting the country.

He won't get it though. The Republican establishment will see to that.

I agree. The Tea Party is largely to blame for that. The "take no prisoners approach" will ruin this country.

it came in news in cbsnews.com that administration will give many illegal immigrants facing deportation chance to stay in U.S. only if they lack criminal record.

Brit, you can't lay it all at the tea party's door. They haven't been around that long. Both sides are to blame, like it or not.
