  • AOS interview without spouse's original Naturalization Certificate

My wife has an interview at District Office in mid February for her marriage based AOS. The letter from USCIS states that we should bring my original Naturalization Certificate to show it to the officer during the interview. I need to apply for my US passport and an original Naturalization Certificate needs to be submitted along with my passport application. It might take 4-6 weeks to get my passport and the original Naturalization Certificate. Does anyone know if USCIS accepts copies of my Naturalization Certificate during the interview or with the passport application? Your suggestion will be appreciated.

Quickly send for you Naturalization Certificate. Then apply for an expidited passport. Phone USCIS and ask your question. You may have to wait because that is what is requested in the letter.

My guess would be you need either the cert or the passport as evidence of your citizenship.

If you cant obtain either in time, go with the copy and explain.

I dont know if INS can issue another doc that would prove that as well .. for that I would contact them directly

Thanks for posting your suggestions! I just called USCIS and they told me that as long as the letter does not specify that I need to bring an Original Naturalization Certificate at the interview, I should be okay with a copy. The letter only asks for the evidence of my Naturalization. I thought, it meant the original one.
