  • MEXICAN BOYCOTT WILL SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE AND PARALYZE AMERICA!!

In Chicago, "everyone in the Spanish media now is talking about a May Day," said Artemio Arreola, a member of the Mexican Federation, a driving force behind a march last month that included about 300,000 people.

And in Dallas, where between 350,000 and 500,000 turned out for a demonstration on Sunday, Jesse Diaz, president of the local League of United Latin American Citizens, predicted that the boycott idea "is going to take off like wildfire. There's so much emotion in the air. You're going to see something like you've never seen in the United States."

You know, mexicans should not make the mistake of thinking we are as uneducated as they are. We don't care how much you march, WE CAN VOTE. And America was working just fine while all those mexicans were walking around in the streets, so I don't see where any of them are doing jobs that we can't do without. If that many can take a day off and the country didn't even notice, then I guess they can all go home now.

The strike will not be the devestating effect as you might claim.

Jean is an alarmist. His actions encourage people to go against his cause.

Illegals and legal immigrants can protest and march all they want but its not gonna make a really big difference because there will always be immigrants like Paddy, who, do not support the cause. they figuere they already have status in this country and thats no longer their fight. While wrong, thats the mentality that most legal residents have.

What a crock. I'm sure we'll be alright without you. Keep pissing off the American people with your tantrums! Hell, even one of your main supporters is telling you guys to stop:

Real smart. Ally the "immigration" movement with International Workers Day, and Marxism. Americans celebrate "Labor Day", and we do it at the end of August.

As it is, the boycott is more likely to bomb, and to hurt the groups it's trying to help. Skip school? Sure. Latinos already drop out at a higher rate than other groups. The school district loses federal funding because students aren't there? Who loses when schools have less money? The students, illegal aliens included. Skip work? It might surprise you and illegal aliens just how well we can get along without them. But can low-wage workers afford to lose a day's pay, or even to risk their jobs. Remember, like buses, there's another along every minute.

Of course, if this much publicized boycott fizzles, or doesn't have the impact its organizers expect, then it just shows how negligible illegal labor really is.

What it shows, Michael, is not so much "stupidity", as a complete lack of awareness of how Americans think. Even the kids, like Jean, who claim that being here for a few years makes them "American", are oblivious. Mistakes like this prove how unassimilated they really are, and how uninterested in being assimilated they really are. (An organizer of this is Nativo Lopez--I read that he was born here and named "Steve" or some such. Either he's cynically pushing this in the hope for publicity and political power, or it shows how unassimilated some people remain even after a generation or two.)

I believe the media is enjoying this story and will protray it as an "issue of the day". We must remember that the motive of the media is not to alert us to valid news, but to create the perception of a controversy. The reality is that this is a non-story. Here is why:

                          * The purpose is to support illegals.

Can you hear that word in you mind? ILLEGALS. I was raised that you try to change the system within the provided framework. (see San Fran mayor who didn't). This means that a protest by LEGALS is fine...protests at the borders is wonderful...but Illegals asking for their crimes to be ignored...are people even thinking?

                          * The damage hurts the group's supporters.

Several emails are flying around asking everyone to avoid "American" companies including Sears. Proof that this should be a non-story comes from the fact that since 1987, Sears has been owned by a Mexican millionaire. Businesses are some of the larger supporters for low-cost labor...and then the group decides to bite the hand that feeds them.

                          * The real issue is never discussed.

Why isn't there discussion about increasing or removing immigration quotas? Because no one, including the illegals, believe that an open border can be sustained. The attitude we see today by protesters is, "...but be sure to close the door behind ME." I don't blame anyone for protecting their own self-interest, but isn't the real test of a homeless advocate is how many homeless people live in their house? And in this case, isn't the real test of illegals looking for a better life shown by how many laws they choose not to break?

Let's face it, this group strikes out on legality, strenthening supporters and motive. The only "news" part of the story that I see is how a group of criminals can assemble a nationwide rally with hope that no one will notice they are illegal.

Trust me, I'm for immigration. I'll even support open borders. But do it within the frame work and don't do it by biting the hand that feeds you (and clothes and shelters and medicates and connects and transports and...)

                            Jean

It seems that you feel as if Americans Citizens that want the "rule of law" respected are bigots. If that's your definition of bigot then add me to your list! In other words, Jean, if you don't like it here --then leave! Go back to where you came from. Perhaps if you and your fellow law breakers would clean up the mess in your home country, you wouldn't want to come to ours! Go home. Get lost!
