  • need info on ID to get married

hi everyone, I 'm trying to find out what can I do to get some type of ID that I can use to get married. My passport is expired and is not accepted, and the only ID I had has been stolen a coupla years ago. Now I'm here out of status, I've been living with my boyfriend a little over 3 years, we have a 2 years old daughter, and we have been trying to get married but I cant get any ID so we cant! I have contacted, consulate, embassy, immigration association, looked at DMV website, no one can issue me any ID. I wanted to know if there is anyone out there who got married in nyc, (I heard Long island) with any id other than standard ID. What could I use? Where could I go? Any place in long island that would marry me with birth certificate, and some type of non standard ID? Any other ideas of where or how could I get an ID that would qualify? Please help. Thanx. vee

              Vee,
You can get married in Las Vegas. They're much more lax. I looked on wedding site and it says people from another country can apply for license without having a SS #. You would need your foreign birth certificate translated into English and of course that would have to be notorized that it is a true copy of the original. You can apply for license online and you have one year to marry. There is no blood test or waiting period. Their location is 201 Clark Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89155 and tel # is 1-702-671-0600. The internet site is http://www.co.clerk.nv.us/clerk/Marr...nformation.htm

You can legally be married in NV and then come home to have a big wedding with family and friends if that is what you want. The legal one would be NV and you wouldn't apply for NY license or sign anything or receive certificate for marriage here in NY. It would be the same as older married couples renewing their vows.

Going to Las Vegas costs money but I think you could do it and get on with your life.
Let us know what you do. Good luck.

My daughter is very young for her age and is having cold feet about marrying right now. I wish there was another legal way to change her status because she can't do anything productive in the waiting time.

                Vee,
I also looked up NYS marriage license. It says you need a birth certificate or Baptismal record, or Naturalization record, or Census record. You also need one of the following: Either a Driver's License, a passport, an employent ID, or an Immigration record. So..you have the birth certificate and it does not say your passport cannot be expired. It has a photo and proof of age. I would just go to City Hall and make out the papers and don't bring attention to the expired passport if they don't. That is what I am going to have my daughter try when she gets around to it before going to Las Vegas.
