  • Alabama Sued for Requiring Proof of Citizenship for Marriage Licenses

This is actually an old law which wasn't always being enforced over the years. It's not unique to AL either. Other counties in the USA also require a SS card before a marriage license can be issued. However, because of the new draconian AL Immigration Law, every thing AL does now is being closely scrutinized as never before. This could be a good thing. If this old law is overturned, IMO it's another own goal for AL legislators.

...illegal aliens leaving is NOT an own goal - it's the intention of the legislation.

The unintended effects of this law is what will be an own goal for AL. The agricultural business will die, school kids are already loosing an education and worst of all, USC and LPR civil liberties have been lost. AL is now a "show me your papers" State. How this can be a good thing for AL I don't know

Fortunately this ill-thought out and misguided law will be found to be unconstitutional and a lot of it is already blocked.

In any case, it looks like the DHS won't co-operate with AL and remove any illegal immigrants caught under this law. So AL taxpayers will be on the hook for the cost of jailing them.

Since AL has gone it alone and created their own immigration law, presumably they will setup their own immigration court and removal procedures?

I guess you have no clue that reduction in student population will translate into reduction in Fed funds for education in AL. That is the intention of the legislation? You're beginning to sound like your good friends, someoneStupid and fednutb.all

odd that the US has produced unbelieveable amounts of agricultural products long before illegal aliens arrived....why should that change just because these lowlifes go back to their own cesspool of a country? Sorry...the US of A is NOT dependent on illegal aliens....

The sentence was deleted due to violation of discuss board rules. No Americans or legal permanent residents have lost any rights because of the Alabama immigration law. What has happened is that illegal aliens and their supporters are upset that Alabama is assisting the Federal government in arresting illegal aliens and the State of Alabama is discouraging illegal immigration.

Hardly assisting. This law was an attempt for AL to write its own Immigration Law in violation of the Constitution. Much like SB 1070 it'll get struck down. When will these rogue States learn?
