Isn't that the US Border Crossing ID card?

Many immigrants refer to the green card as a MICA, but noone knows the origin of the acronym nor what it stands for. I was curious to know if anyone knew.

Tha piece of plastic used to laminate documents is called "mica" in Spanish. Hispanic people (at least Mexicans) started calling the credit-card-size laminated immigration documents "mica" as opposed to stamped authorizations on book-style passports. That's why many people still refer to documents like I-551, BBC (Border Crossing Cards, etc.) as "micas"...

So mica in spanish stands for plastic laminate? Sorry, just clarifying. It doesn't translate in the spanish/english dictionary. Thank you for your responses.

Try to find the word "enmicar" which means to laminate. You might not find some words in pocket dictionaries.
