    http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/au...aedte/story/14379406

This just in... It's in German, but I have not heard anything about this here yet. According to the article ABC reported about it. Tent Cities are establised on the periphery of many US cities especially in areas with mild climates. The report mentioning that several hundered formally middle class families are moving into Tent City USA.

Is America becoming a 3rd World Country because of all the greed and unwillingness to recognize that we all need to live with and for each other and share?

      koller,

We don't have the resources anymore to feed ourselves let alone the world.

Yes, most definately I think in my life time we will become a third world country.

Laws are no longer being enforced and the corruption is growing. If it looks like a duck, quack like a duck, chances are it's a duck.

So for those who lied, abused, and cheated a nation who does welcome all without regard to the long term consequences, congradulations your contributing to making the U.S. much like the countries you have fled from. Not only for the honest immigrants but the citizens of this country that your actions/deeds have raped what once was truly a great nation.

Again I have NO problem with helping those who do not understand the system. I am american and I didn't even understand, nor was I explained all procedures when using a high powered immigrations attorney. So HELP those who have done no harm, made innocent honest mistakes, but don't continue to offer and give advice on how to beat the system.

Continuing to beat the system, or cheat the system will eventually have us all living in tent cities.

OK, let's start sieving the cheats out. I think it is rather easy to do, just have every American apply to USCIS (as though they were to immigrate to the US). I'd say 2/3 of the population will be turned back at the port of entry.

I wouldn't be so negative about it. I think it's largely temporary. When the economy picks up the tents will disappear. But it is a sad reflection on a Nation that seems to be unable or unwilling to care for it's own. In other countries, even in bad times, you don't see this kind of thing going on as much. That's because they have a social welfare net that allows people to stay in their own homes while rent and basics are covered from government welfare or there are government run shelters or housing. The US doesn't have this so the only option for those without family or friends is to buy a tent and camp out. Really sad.

Most Americans don't like government much or paying taxes so this is what happens when things go bad. If you don't like it, then change it.

We did change it - we opted/voted democrat and for change. It's still in baby-shoes, but it's going to take hold soon.

It is really sad. In earlier days when America portrait herself to the outside one could only think this is (Voltair's Eldorado). However, when coming here you were faced with reality, i.e. the beggers in the street, the imperfections everywhere, the uneducatedness, the dirt and realized that America is really nothing else but a big, big lie!

It's like my father always said - he himself was an immigrant to the "western world", it doesn't matter where you go, you'll have to work and pay taxes.

Show me where in the constitution that says we are living for each other or with or need to share. That is socialism. This country isn't that at all. Everything this country stood for was about giving people the opportunity to succeed. Not about creating a welfare state.

The problem is the people. Instead of looking to themselves for the solution they are looking to government. Yes, I am saying it. They are lazy. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Davdah, you know I really like you - and I am going to have to poor you a glass of clear wine.

The constitution doesn't say that - true. The constitution is a more than 200 year old document. The people that created it meant well, and I comment them for it!

Change is the only constant - that's a fact. As a conservative, you are going to have to face the fact that the constitution needs to be amended. It's an outdated writ!

Change is possible. Look no further than Europe. 50 years ago, the countries there were at odds with each other, now we are a Union/Community. They use the same money - we band together we are stronger for it - that counts for the individual too.

Socialism as Marx thought it up doesn't work. Communism as Lenin had thought about it doesn't work either. Capitalism by itself doesn't work either. We have to find the middle ground - our intelligence dictates that we do that.

              Cheers!!!

The problem here is that these people are probably not even so undereducated, but they have no way to turn to government. Government here is structured that only the very low income people can take advantage of social services. Once you make a certain amount of money, you loose your job, the economy isn't ready to give you another one, you'r 6 month unemployment insurance runs out - you don't qualify for anything and you sit in the street.

Hear, hear Koller. I doubt all of the "tent people" are slackers and ***s. I suspect most are victims of Big Wall St and Big Business downsizing. Why else would tent cities be suddenly springing up all over?

Anything can happen in the blink of an eye. Just last week I found myself in hospital for 2 days and now looking at a $3k+ bill (and that's with insurance). Debt is all around and it doesn't always follow that it's your fault davdah.

Koller, capitalism does work. Nothing is perfect and the only down side to it are the cycles. We're going through the low curve of that wave. In time it will self correct. It always has.

The constitution was based on God given rights. That is why the left is on the kill god path they are on. If God is taken out then it makes it that much easier to say the rights are dictated by the state. And easily removed. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Let's pull this apart shall we. Capitalism does work - I know it does, but it has be reigned in and checked on by government. There have to be rules, better rules than there are now. You complain that people are at fault of their missery. I say no - I say it's the governments fault for not regulating enough.

Start at the root - the schools/education. The schools here are either good or bad - that goes according to the area where people live and how much taxes are paid to the community. Schools need to be regulated by the government. All schools need to be all the same (according to grade), same funds, same curriculum. This will assure that people are educated properly and equally. Private schools can be in excistance all the same.

You can't let the private market regulate education - that's what's happening now and the outcomes is not good.

Not everybody is a strong (mentally as you and I). The private market is pounding the week with Hungry Jack TV Dinners. What do you get, fat, incapacitated people. Once these people are incapacitated, the private market is not fixing it. These people (under the auspices of: another bites the dust) become outcasts of society and a burden to the presently (minimally existing government). Government needs to be empowered to regulate more. I could go on and on.

Welcome to Obama's America. Everyone is Greedy; there are 2 very different types of greed though. Private Greed did not cause this; Public Greed did. This was caused by the "Community Reinvestment Act" under Clinton, "The Dream Act" under Bush and the "Stinulus" plan under Obama. These programs are all designed to steal from the rich and stop them from investing and give to the poor to buy drugs. And they did this to stop "greed". Private Greed is good. Private Greed builds cities and empires. Private Greed stops wars, hunger and poverty. Public Greed destroys capital, cities, empires, food supplies, inventories, and wealth. Public Greed starts wars, kills people. Public Greed claimed it was going to help the poor. But giving money to poor people who waste it on drugs caused more damage to them.

                        BRING CAPITALISM BACK !
                        BRING AMERICA BACK !!!

Was it necessary to have a designer purse for 500 instead of one without the name tag for 50? A BMW instead of a Ford?

In most cases if these people's finances were scrutinized it would be shown they spent like wild eyed democrats. I had a former employee who I fired since he liked to sleep at his desk. He bought a car six months ago. A new one for 20+K. I knew he couldn't afford that car. You would think since he had that kind of responsibility he would make some effort to keep his job. Didn't seem to care. He honestly felt he was entitled to it and the car without the effort.

To some extent I agree with both of you Koller & davdah.

A friend of mine who separated from his wife 3yrs ago went out and bought a $240k house on a 100% mortgage, put only $1000 down and bought a used Merc for $16k as well. All fair and well except he earns the same as as I do and there's no way I could afford all of that!

My friend just got fired last week because he was in Holland when on reserve and the company called him out to fly. I told him only a month ago "don't do anything stupid or else they'll fire you".

There are some dumb people out there for sure. The old saying is apt "You can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink it"

Anyone who believes that America is a Capitalist country has no clue what Capitalism is. This country is as Socialist as Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The last remnants of Caitalism ended with Ronald Reagan. Even then, the country was slipping more and more into being a socialist state.
