    AlecT Junior Member:

How long did you process take?
    Did you hire a lawer?

Should I beging my paperwork before i get married or right after?

THanks so much for answering! I appreciate your input.

      I have only recently filed - Feb 27 2004

I filed after we got married. You can file the next day if you like - except you will need a certified copy of your marriage certificate - which takes a week or two (depending on where you are).

You can definitely start compiling the necessary documentation and photos etc... and filling out the forms prior to your marriage - it takes a surprisingly long time to complete the forms and make sure you have them correctly completed.

I filed with Los Angeles District Office - current estimates are 9-12 months for AOS. Depends where you will be filing (ie where you live).

I didn't not hire a lawyer - as I believe my application is fairly straight forward and I took great care with the help of this discussion board as well as www.britishexpats.com for info and help.

All the best - especially for the wedding :-)
