• Hispanic Students Vanishing From Alabama Schools After Immigration Ruling

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Hispanic students have started vanishing from Alabama public schools in the wake of a court ruling that upheld the state's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration.

Education officials say scores of immigrant families have withdrawn their children from classes or kept them home this week, afraid that sending the kids to school would draw attention from authorities. Read more here

WASHINGTON – A federal judge's decision last week that left Alabama's strict new immigration law largely intact is already having a major impact throughout the state, as hundreds of Hispanic children stayed away from school. Read more here

Correct noborders, education will become more expensive in AL therefore higher taxes needed to pay for it.

"Rest assured," the letter states, "that it will not be a problem if you are unable or unwilling to provide either of the documents."

Yeah right and you believe that? The supporters claim this law doesn't require recording the name of the child's enrollment however it wouldn't be that difficult to find out who is who since they have to present themselves in person and if the child can't show proof of being in the country legally, the school must send a letter to the parents who must respond within 30 days or that child is registered as "enrolled without documentation"

Even though this law doesn't require the school to pass on details of the record (only the number of undocumented students) it would be naive to believe the school maintains no records. AL Lawmakers have IMO deliberately worded the law this way so as to attempt to distance themselves from accusation of using this law as a way of singling out illegal immigrant kids and their parents for ultimately turning them over to ICE.

GREAT!! Now Alabama can concentrate its resources on educating those students who are legally entitled to live in the United States.

Finally, someone is looking out for the interests of AMERICAN STUDENTS!

Sundevilish, make sure you tell your friends that are teachers in AL to start looking for teaching jobs in other states because they are about to be unemployed because of the new law. Remember schools and school districts always have a teacher/student ratio and you rearly see 3 teachers in a classroom. Send your thank you letter to the Gov. of AL

...you only need three teachers in a classroom when the students are illegal aliens. The Governor and Lawmakers in Alabama will, indeed, be thanked by American parents as the test scores in Alabama schools will now rise dramatically!

Furthermore, if the overburdened taxpayers in Alabama now need to pay fewer teachers because the illegal aliens (who shouldn't be in the country at all) have left, then that is a BONUS. Teachers are educated individuals who will have no trouble finding alternative work.

Another display of limited knowledge when it comes to "politics of tax and education." So you believe the Republican Gov. of AL will not tax the citizens more and keep the same number of teachers when student enrollment has gone down? Rush to Wisconsin and see what their Gov is doing to the teacher's union. Or just blame you lack of knowledge on too much sun. That is more plausible, Mr. Sundevilish

Bustin' commie teacher unions is a good idea in any situation.

In any event, money will be saved by the decline in illegal alien students.

NoIntelligence: Like a typical brainless liberal, you simply alter your argument to suit whatever point you think that you're making - if you look back, you'll see that you were the one who was whining that Alabama's law would result in the firing of teachers because illegal-alien students and their families were fleeing the state (which is a good thing).

...and I realize that you're only semi-literate, but it's teachers' union, not teacher's union...unless, of course, you think that the state of Alabama only has one teacher!

Sundevilish, you must be confusing me for someone else. What difference do you think it makes to me whether the "teacher's" union is busted or not. The union does not have undocumented immigrants, does it? Tell the Gov of AL to fire all of them. Also tell him to make sure they don't get unemployment benefits. What a loss to me>

...so, noIntelligence, you'd only care about teachers being fired if they - to use your own words - were "undocumented immigrants?"

                              WOW!

That the teachers are Americans makes them entirely expendable to you...yet you whine and moan about every supposed slight to illegal aliens!

I guess, given your inherent stupidity, that I shouldn't expect any more, but even after I pointed out that it's teachers' union, you still misspell it. Perhaps if you were better educated, you'd have more respect for teachers...even though they're not your beloved illegal aliens.
