So, do we have an estimate on how long it does take for background/security checks to come back. Particularly N-400 interview did not yield an answer regarding approved or not due to 'some checks are not back...'
    If it makes any difference:
    N-400 priority date - March 1st '04
    district office - Milwaukee, WI
N-400 fingerprinting - first week of April '04
    N-400 interview - August 27th, '04
    Oath - November 20th, 2004

You can contact the FBI directly and see if the fingerprints and name checks have been sent back to the USCIS or not.

          Fingerprint status: call 304-625-5590

Name check status: fax (202) 324-3367 OR phone (202) 324-4935

          Include:

          Name
          Address
          SSN #
          Alien #
          Date of Birth
          Phone #
          Email address

          Address fax to:

          David M. Hardy
          Record Information Dissemination Section
          Records Management Division
          FBI
          Dept of Justice
          935 Pennsylvania Ave NW
          Washington, DC 20535-0001

The officer responds by email in 3-4 weeks.

            question is:

should I worry at this point and start digging into this or just wait a bit longer?

sphyrapicus3, thanks for the info, it is very much a possibility I will be needing your info.

Why not make the 5 min call to the FBI so you can see where you case stands. If they've cleared the name and fingerprints then you'll know that the file is being held up by USCIS and not the FBI.

For the record, Milwaukee is showing Dec 15/03 as the current processing date for N-400s. It looks like you are way ahead of the curve since your priority date is Mar 01/04.

Two months from the interview is not much. It is a drag that they couldn't get it all together for you in time that you could vote.

                sphyrapicus3/longtimehere,

I thought the fingerprint testing comes BEFORE the interview?

Please share your N-400 interview experience.

It does. Look at the OP's timeline.

                  FP first, interview second.

I had a feeling Bush would not let us vote as new immigrants approval ratings of him are VERY low. In fact, I told my wife: '...watch, I bet letter will come November 3rd...' I was off by 3 days . Oh well. By the way, if not for the envelope, I would of thought it was junk mail. NOTHING official about that two page form. No LIN number on the invitation or anything. Just directions and two tickets. On the other side, it has a basic question list I will have to fill out (I think 10 or something), all asking if I got divorced, married, became a communits or a terrorist and bla bla bla). Other than almost a 2 hour drive each way to Milwaukee and back - It is a great news.
Again, I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who has contributed and shared opinions (Michael, I will kindly exclude you, with boards permission). Before becoming a member I was a lurker, so in a year I learned quite a bit of stuff from you gals and guys. One of this days I might come back and post my whole story ... Until than, good luck to all of you with your immigration quest(s) and thanks again for contributions as it helped quite a bit, or at least it did for/to me (I do have immigration attorney, but it is nice to hear and share experience with someone wearing same shoes...).
