back in april i filed the i-130 and i-485 for my wife. I am a citizen and my wife came to the states on a student visa. The only receipt i got was a letter saying the paperwork was received, a copy of the forms submitted and receipt for payment. I want to check online on the staus but I have no receipt number. anbody from nyc know the timelines. we did not go through a lawyer and did all filing ourselves. but if something was wrong etc signature, form; they would surely respond saying they need more info right? any comments or remarks apreciated.

Unfortunately you will not be able to check the status of your case online as it only applies to cases filed at service centers where a formal notice (NOA) is sent after the application is received. With local offices, such as NYC, you're only given a yellow receipt with your A#. If you paid by personal checks, keep those also for your records.

As for the timeline, well, I've been told that 2 years is not an unreasonable amount of time. What's happened since April? Did your wife get her EAD yet?

You need to take all the proof you have of filing and payment and go down to Federal Plaza. They should be able to match up (hopefully) the receipt you have with what's in their system. I also heard that if it's 90 days past the filing of the EAD application and you still haven't heard anything, you can go apply in person. Bottom line is there's more leg work involved when it comes to filing at the NYC district office. The online and 800# are useless. Good luck!

yes, you can file in vermont. But I think I-485 should be filed in Federal Plaza if you need receipt.

                  Hey,

I also filed an I130, I485 and EAD with the NYC office. NEVER NEVER NEVER got one receipt for the forms, except for the cleared bank checks.

The only website I have seen that posts processing time for the NYC office is below, but its scary if its true (I485 processing times went from 365 days 2 weeks ago to 365 days today!)

                  go here

Did you filed by Mail? If yes then Save the filling postal receipt. If you filled in person then you might have the rigester receiptand stamp on the receipt paper.
with these receipt you should go to federal plaza and enquire. you should ask for receipt which start with EAC OR A number. Either they will give you or they will tell you that you will get in mail. make sure to check your mailing address on file.

thanks all for the help...i plan on going to the federal plaza to inquire, probably spend the whole day there. i have the receipts for payment, but by chance what if they say they can't find or match my filing? do i give them the papers again and i am at the back of the line?
