  • V Visa and adjustment of Status.

My wife has a V1 visa, and we applied for adjustment of status at our Local INS office. But our local INS send it back to us and sent a letter saying that we need to file I- 485 at Chicago, Illinois. Is this true??? Because we were told that after getting V-1 visa, we need to file at local INS. Your help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kant.

The Missouri Service Center adjudicate s adjustment applications filed in accordance with the LIFE Act. Local INS offices adjudicate adjustment applications filed based on family petitions. Have some one review your case. If it should be adjudicated at the MCS, it will get sent to Chicago, IL, otherwise the local office should accept it.

Apology for not repling soon... We called the INS toll free number and they said that local INS should accept Adjustment of status I-485, so we sent it again and they accepted it. Processing time will be 180 days (in Aug-2003). But meanwhile my wife's I-94 expires in April-2003.. So should we wait ??
