  • I-130/I-485 Processing Times

I have a problem. I've been in the US since August of 2000. I came in on a I-94 which expired 3 months after I arrived here. However before it expired I got married to a USC (the whole reason why I'm here). Because of the fact that my wife is the only one that can work and she has 3 kids, we have been unable to file any paperwork at all. We plan on filing the I-130 and I-485 package with my wife's tax refund in 2004. My question is; how long will it take the CIS to process the Employment Permit application? I really badly need to get to back to work as it's getting too much for my wife to work jobs just to break even. How does it work if we file both forms at the same time. We were both hoping that maybe I'd be able to work 3 months after filing them, but looking at the processing times puts me off. I'm so confused. Help!!!

Also, can anyone recommend an lawyer in Texas who isn't too expensive?

Thanks for any replies to this.
