My 14-year-old son learned in school about ****oris and woman's intimate parts lately. Asked by the teacher whether ****oris has a shaft or not, he said no, per his impressions in his mind by looking at his gitlfriend's vagina. Now his teacher told him no as lately some scientists had discovered that ****oris is not as simple as it appeared to be, but it did have a body and a glans (head) just like *****, albeit much smaller.

What the truth is? Should I tell my son to argue with his teacher?

Theoretically the teacher was right. Helen O'Connell, a urology surgeon at Melbourne, has discovered recently (1998) that the ****oris is far larger and more complex than doctors previously thought. Most of it is buried beneath layers of fat and shielded by pelvic bone, which perhaps accounts for why it has never been found before! Or maybe the reason has more to do with the medical profession being run by men, and an inbuilt bias against women. This is vitally important because until now any urinary tract or gynecological surgery may well have cut important nerves or blood vessels that run to the c litoris. Medical knowledge has just not been good enough to ensure that doctors can protect the s exual function of the women on whom they are operating.

There doesn't seem to be any good reason why this hasn't come to light till now. Where have the medical profession's priorities lain, do you think? Another researcher found that in the 1901 Gray's Anatomy (the anatomist's basic reference) the ****oris was labeled clearly, but after 1948 the label had been deleted. When she looked at 8 other anatomy text books published between 1950 and 1971 she found that the c litoris was not labeled and sometimes was not even represented AT ALL! Since 1981 the c litoris has been labeled again but only minimally. It almost seems that if something has to do with female pleasure, particularly s exual pleasure, it just hasn't been deemed important. Why? Prudery about women's s exuality? Who knows! Lack of interest in women's' s exuality? Shameful! Whatever the explanation, this new discovery is a big step forward in understanding the ****oris and its nerve structures.

The glans of the c litoris, THE PART THAT MOST PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT, is just the external part of the much larger body underneath. In fact, the shaft of the c litoris lays vertically along the body's midline, covered and never seen, just beneath a layer of fat and skin. It reaches down towards the vagina and then splits to each side. The August 1998 issue of New Scientist magazine describes it like this:

"The 'body' of the c litoris, which connects to the glans, is about as big as the first joint of your thumb. It has two arms up to 9 centimeters long that flare backwards into the body, lying just a few millimeters from the ends of the muscles that run up the inside of the thigh. Also extending from the body of the c litoris, and filling the space between its arms, are two bulbs, one on each side of the vaginal cavity."

These bulbs had previously been thought to be part of the vaginal structure but they are in fact part of the erectile tissue of the c litoris. They seem to have a couple of uses. They transmit pressure from the mouth of the vagina to the nerve structure of the c litoris, and they help clamp the urethra shut during arousal, which may help to prevent bacteria entering the urinary tract during ***.

so basically, "wow," before you read what "helpy" said, you would answer to the question,

"Does c litoris have a small shaft and head (glans) which is similar to the p enis"

'No'?

Okay, given the fact that this kind of thread is already open, I had a question as well:

Is it true that a male with a circumcised ***** has less sexual sensation than a male who is not circumcised?

<Yes, it is True...>

Circumcision, once accepted as the norm in the United States, has become controversial. Technically, circumcision is the surgical removal of the skin that normally covers and protects the head, or glans, of the p e n i s. At birth, the p e n i s is covered with a continuous layer of skin extending from the p u b i s to the tip of the p e n i s where the f o r e s k i n (p r e p u c e) folds inward upon itself, creating a double protective layer of skin over the glans *****. The inner lining of the p r e p u c e is mucous membrane and serves to keep the surface of the glans p e n i s (also mucous membrane) soft, moist, and sensitive. The prepuce is often erroneously referred to as "redundant" tissue, which allows the medical community and society at large to consider the f o r e s k i n an optional part of the male s e x organ and, therefore, to condone its routine removal in a variety of procedures collectively known as "circumcision." Circumcision, however, was also a part of religious ritual, including Judaism and Islam as well as others. However, 85% of the world's male population is not circumcised. Circumcision in 1992 was still the most commonly performed surgical procedure in America, where 59% of newborn males underwent this operation. Circumcision reached its peak of 85-90% during the 1960s and 1970s. The surgery, usually performed on baby boys within the first few days of life, is often considered "routine."

Usually, the procedure for circumcision in America involves the baby being strapped spreadeagle to a plastic board, with his arms and legs immobilised by Velcro straps. A nurse scrubs his genitals with an antiseptic solution and places a surgical drape - with a hole in it to expose his ***** - across his body. The doctor grasps the tip of the foreskin with one haemostat and inserts another haemostat between the foreskin and the glans. (In 96% of newborns, these two structures are attached to one another by a continuous layer of epithelium, which protects the sensitive glans from urine and faeces in infancy and childhood.) The foreskin is then torn from the glans. The haemostat is used to crush an area of the foreskin lengthwise, which prevents bleeding when the doctor cuts through the tissue to enlarge the foreskin opening. This allows insertion of the circumcision instrument. The f o r e s k i n is crushed against this device circumferentially and amputated.

During ************, the mucosal surface of the f o r e s k i n rolls back and forth across the mucosal surface of the glans *****, providing non-traumatic s e x u a l stimulation. During heterosexual activity, the mucosal surfaces of the glans ***** and foreskin move back and forth across the mucosal surfaces of the l a b i a and v a g i n a, providing non-traumatic s e x u a l stimulation of both male and female. This mucous membrane contact provides the natural lubrication necessary for sexual relations and prevents both the dryness responsible for painful intercourse and the chafing and abrasions which allow entry of sexually transmitted diseases, both viral and bacterial. When normal, s e x u a l l y functioning tissue is removed, s e x u a l functioning is also altered. C i r c u m c i s i o n performed in the newborn period traumatically interrupts the natural separation of the foreskin from the glans that normally occurs somewhere between birth and age 18. The raw, exposed glans ***** heals in a process that measurably thickens the surface of the glans and results in desensitisation of the head of the p e n i s. The thickened, drier tissue covering the glans of the c i r c u m c i s e d p e n is may necessitate the use of synthetic lubricants to facilitate non-traumatic s e x u a l intercourse. Often, it is erroneously considered the woman's lack of lubrication that makes intercourse painful rather than the lack of natural male lubrication, which is more likely the cause. During m a s t u r b a t i o n, the c i r c u m c i s e d male must use his hands for direct stimulation of the glans, and this may require synthetic lubrication as well.

While c i r c u m c i s i o n has potential risks and alters normal, sexual functioning of the p e n i s, proponents of the practice consider it to confer many "prophylactic" benefits on the recipient. This rationale was initiated in the English-speaking countries during the 19th century when the aetiology of diseases was unknown. At that time, circumcision evolved from a religious ritual or puberty rite into routine surgery for "health" reasons. Within the miasma of myth and ignorance, a theory emerged that m a s t u r b a t io n caused many and varied ills, so some physicians thought it logical to perform genital surgery on both s e x e s to stop ************. In 1891, P.C. Remondino advocated c i r c u m c i s i o n to prevent or to cure alcoholism, epilepsy, asthma, hernia, gout, rheumatism, curvature of the spine, and headaches. As scientific research uncovered legitimate pathological aetiology for diseases previously thought to be prevented or cured by circumcision, new rationales were postulated to validate the practice. Prophylactic circumcision of females fell out of vogue in English-speaking countries, but the incidence of male c i r c u m c i s i o n steadily rose. In the early 20th century, c i r c u m c i s i o n was advocated as a hygienic measure. Though criticism of the practice mounted, it was not until 1975 that the American Academy of Pediatrics came out in opposition, arguing that good personal hygiene would offer all the advantages of routine c i r c u m c i s i o n without the attendant surgical risk. The advent of antibiotics negated the rationale that circumcision was needed to prevent venereal disease. As a religious ritual, circumcision is practiced by Jews and Moslems in accordance with the biblical account of Abraham's covenant with God. Even so, the "purpose" of the Jewish ritual of c i r c u m c i s i o n has been argued by Jews throughout history. Noted Rabbi Moses Maimonides, in the Guide of the Perplexed, explains a rationale for circumcision that merits attention when c i r c u m c i s i o n is considered relative to human sexuality.

As regards circumcision... [s]ome people believe that c i r c u m c i s i o n is to remove a defect in man's formation; but every one can easily reply: How can products of nature be deficient so as to require external completion, especially as the use of the foreskin to that organ is evident. This commandment has not been enjoined as a complement to a deficient physical creation, but as a means for perfecting man's moral shortcomings. The bodily injury caused to that organ is exactly that which is desired; it does not interrupt any vital function, nor does it destroy the power of generation. Circumcision simply counteracts excessive lust; for THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT C I R C U M C I S I O N WEAKENS THE POWER OF SEXUAL EXCITEMENT, and sometimes lessens the natural enjoyment; the organ necessarily becomes weak when it loses blood and is deprived of its covering from the beginning. The Moslems, who also c i r c u m c i s e in accordance with the biblical covenant between Abraham and God, traditionally c i r c u m c i s e d their males at age 13. More recently, however, Moslem boys are c i r c u m c i s e d at varying ages from birth to puberty.

The inalienable body ownership rights of infants and children continue to be addressed within the U.S. legal system in lawsuits asserting that the only person who can legally consent to a c i r c u m c i s i o n is a person making this personal decision for himself. The reports of dissatisfaction with parental c i r c u m c i s i o n decisions by c i r c u m c i s e d men help to illustrate this point. Performed on their p e n i s e s without their consent, thousands are now undergoing f o r e s k i n restoration, either medical or surgical, to reconstruct what they consider was violently taken from their bodies early in their lives. The Declaration of the First International Symposium on C i r c u m c i s i o n acknowledges the unrecognised victims of c i r c u m c i s i o n and, in support of genital ownership rights of infants and children, states: "We recognize the inherent right of every human being to an intact body. Without religious or racial prejudice, we affirm this basic human right." Due to the lifelong consequences of the permanent surgical alteration of children's g e n i t a l s, it becomes imperative that children have the right to own their own reproductive organs and to preserve their natural s e x u a l function. These, then, are the human g e n i t a l s. Considering their great delicacy, complexity and sensitivity, one might imagine that an intelligent species like man would leave them alone. Sadly, this has never been the case. For thousands of years, in many different cultures, the g e n i t a l s have fallen victim to an amazing variety of mutilations and restrictions. For organs that are capable of giving us an immense amount of pleasure, they have been given an inordinate amount of pain.

everybody (especially females) know how ugly that appendix without a circumsision looks and feels and smells (considering a British study that virtually no uncircumsized boy is being taught the proper way of personal hygenie)!

I haven't even touched the subject of the occurence of cervical cancer in the female population who have, stupidly enough, intercourse with uncircumsized males. So, who cares of a less sensitive organ in an gone-bezerk with sexual obsession part of the population when the right thing to do is male circumsision!
